Black Mangrove (Avicennia germinans), a member of the Acanthaceae (Acanthus Family), is a shrub to small tree that grows from 10′ to 40′ tall and blooms with white to pink flowers in the summer to early fall (July to September). This plant grows in places with full sun in soils that are moist to wet and is hardy in zones 9-11.
